TOMORROW ON OUTQ

I'll be talking about The Fireman.  Who?  It's sort of like Paul McCartney's Traveling Wilburys. Not really: it's Paul with Youth, the bassist from Killing Joke who has produced and remixed tons of bands, including Depeche Mode and The Verve. Anyway, The Fireman's latest album, Electric Arguments (their first with vocals, the others were instrumental and more ambient) has gotten great reviews, which Paul's albums don't always get. 

Also, Willie Nelson's new album with Asleep At The Wheel, Willie & The Wheel. And Lily Allen's new album, It's Not Me, It's You. Larry Flick likes the album a lot, he made a copy for me, and I'm enjoying it too.  She's Joe Strummer's goddaughter, so she deserves a listen. 

Also the latest stuff from (RED)wire: This week I got Jakob Dylan and Elvis Costello covering The Clash's "Straight To Hell." I was also going to talk about The Beastie Boys' 20th anniversary reissue of Paul's Boutique. You can get a free download of a "director's commentary" track.  But don't bother, it's pretty boring. Instead, you should check out the 33 1/3 Paul's Boutique book, which is the whole story behind the classic album. I'll also be talking about the 33 1/3 series, and I have a few editions to bring in and discuss if time permits. 

PAUL McCARTNEY PLAYS ISRAEL, FOILS RELIGIOUS WACKOS, PREPS NEW TECHNO ALBUM

I'm glad, as most people are, that Paul McCartney's recent concert in Israel, went off well with no one getting hurt. His oover of John Lennon's "Give Peace A Chance" was supposedly a highlight of the show.

Earlier this year, there were reports that Paul was working on a new album with Youth from Killing Joke. Paul and Youth had done two amibent instrumental albums together already, under the name "The Fireman." I thought that this next album would be a "normal" Paul McCartney album. Nope: it's going to be a Fireman album with a twist: Paul will be singing on it. Still, I wonder if he's also working on a more conventional rock/pop album, and if he is going to tour the U.S. anytime soon. I don't see him touring for a Fireman album.

PAUL McCARTNEY TO ISRAEL: THE SHOW WILL GO ON

I am glad to hear that Paul McCartney will be
performing his scheduled concert in Israel on September 25. I don't want to get into politics here, but good on you, Paul. I didn't realize, though, that Israel had decided not to let The Beatles perform back in the day for fear that they'd corrupt the youth of the nation.

Paul's music doesn't have much bite these days, but I respect him from doing what he wants and not taking crap. I give him total respect for his constant support of animal rights.

In othe Paul news, I hear his next album is coming soon, and he's recording it with Youth of Killing Joke. They've worked together before, on Paul's ambient music projects which he records as "The Fireman." So maybe this album will have some bite.

ANOTHER NEW MCCARTNEY ALBUM

According to RollingStone.com, Paul McCartney is working on his next album with Killing Joke’s Youth. I think he’s worked with Youth on his ambient techno projects that he released as “The Fireman.” Of course, Youth has produced a lot of other artists, including The Verve (their Urban Hymns classic, which I just wrote about). I’m sure Paul is looking to tour, but probably waiting for the details of his divorce to be finalized.

Paul’s last album, Memory Almost Full, was OK. I loved the song “Dance Tonight,” but I didn’t love the rest. Maybe Youth is what he needs – a producer who won’t be intimidated by him, and who wants to push him in new directions. Although he did work with Nigel Godrich on Chaos & Creation In The Backyard, which in theory should have resulted in a more edgy album but it didn’t.
