ADAM YAUCH: FEELING BETTER

Adam Yauch sent fans an email saying that he's making a quick recovery from the surgery he had to remove a cancerous tumor in his neck. He also thanked Coldplay and Jay-Z for covering Beastie Boys songs at the recent All Points West Festival in New Jersey, which the B-Boys were scheduled to headline (they cancelled at the last minute, and Jay-Z replaced them on the bill). Here's hoping that he and the Beasties return to active service soon.

TOMORROW ON OUTQ: RANCID, STREET SWEEPER SOCIAL CLUB, DEAD WEATHER AND MORE

I had a great vacation, and now I'm glad to be back. I'll be on OutQ tomorrow talking about Rancid's Let The Dominoes Fall, my second favorite rock album of the year (after The Cocktail Slippers' Saint Valentine Day's Massacre), Street Sweeper Social Club's debut and The Dead Weather's debut, Horehound. If time permits, I'll also talk about Tinted Windows - a new band featuring former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, Adam Schleshinger of Fountains Of Wayne, Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick and Taylor Hanson of Hanson. Also, Cheap Trick's new album The Latest - available now on mp3, CD and 8-track! Also, two new b-sides from Green Day's new album and a band that is new to me, The Dolly Rocker Movement.

THE PIXIES TO CELEBRATE DOLITTLE

The Pixies are going to tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dolittle!

SEVEN WORLDS COLLIDE... AGAIN

Neil Finn of Crowded House is reactivating his 7 Worlds Collide project: it's basically a collective with him at the center. This time around, it's Neil with returning members Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway of Radiohead, Johnny Marr and Lisa Germano. This time, Eddie Vedder isn't involved, but Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and Glenn Kotche are, as is KT Tunstall. I don't know if they album will come out in the U.S. though.

WHY TRENT LEFT TWITTER

It's pretty exciting when artists - not their publicists, their keepers or their paid bloggers/tweeters, but the actual artists themselves - engage with fans online. Unfortunately, on the internet, a lot of worthless jerks have an opportunity to be obnoxious (and be noticed), and sometimes they can poison the pool.

Trent Reznor has made great use of Twitter, but sadly, he recently deleted his account. Here, he explains why. You really can't blame him, but it's a bummer anyway.

THE RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS TO RETURN... NEXT YEAR?

Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith just told Billboard's Gary Graff that the band plan to get back together in the fall to start working on their next album. He also says that he has another group, The Meatbats, who do instrumental music. It's him and some other musicians that he met while working on former Deep Purple/Black Sabbath member Glenn Hughes' solo album - guitarist Jeff Kolman and keyboardist Ed Roth. Of course, right now Smith is working with Chickenfoot, alongside Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Joe Satriani. I'm mostly excited to hear the return of the Chili Peppers. They make me feel good to be alive.

DAVE GROHL + JOSH HOMME + JOHN PAUL JONES = THEM CROOKED VULTURES

The Dave Grohl/Josh Homme/John Paul Jones band I wrote about will be playing their first gig this weekend according to Billboard. They also have a website. They're called Them Crooked Vultures. Pretty cool!
