There have been some great changes of direction: Bob Dylan going electric, and U2's change from being American-roots music obsessed earnest guys to ironic techno loving euro-hipsters on Achtung Baby.
But I was trying to think of some of the worst ones. One that quickly came to mind was Elton John's disco album Victim Of Love. But even worse than that, was Dee Dee Ramone's album as Dee Dee King, Standing In The Spotlight. It was a hip-hop album. Wow. It's awesome in its awfulness. What are your favorite bad turns by good artists?
