THE WEEK IN KANYE

Apparently, South Park really skewered Kanye West this week.  I haven't watched the show in a few years, but I have to catch this episode. I am a fan of Kanye's music (especially the first two albums and some of his collabs), but he can definitely stand to be taken down a few pegs.

Kanye took it like a man, though, and took to his blog to say that he is working on his ego, and said that part of being dope is not always telling people how dope you are, and saying "thank you" when someone compliments him instead of saying "I told you so!" I'll give him credit for this.  He later posted again, saying that he didn't get his ego epiphany from the South Park episode.

Also, Rolling Stone asked if Kanye is the KISS of hip-hop, because he's making deals for a fragrance, a sneaker and an energy drink. Well, yeah, lots of hip-hop cats are like the KISS of hip-hop, but will their music hold up as well as KISS's does 30+ years later, and will their fans still care? The funny thing is, music critics have routinely slammed KISS for Gene's marketing instincts (true, he's had lots of dumb ideas, and many that are embarrassing to his fans) but no one ever calls Kanye or Jay-Z a "sellout." That's some white guilt shit, right there.
