Les Paul passed away last week, as everyone knows. I just haven't really been sure what to say about it. A lot of people didn't know that "Les Paul" was a person - I think many only know it as the name of a kind of guitar. That's a legacy: when an artist's work totally transcends their persona.

It wasn't just that he pioneered the Les Paul guitar used by almost every rock guitarist at one time or another: he actually pioneered the idea of the solid body electric guitar, as well as multi-track recording. He really did change the way music was played and recorded. And he had a great career as an artist as well. Rest in peace.
